What is Fix Wire Testing?

Fixed wire testing inspects and assesses an electrical installation’s main electrical wiring system to ensure it is safe to use and complies with British Standard BS 7671. For more information call us on 0151 486 6760.

What does fixed wire testing involve?

Fixed wire testing involves inspecting and testing electrical installations and circuits. This ensures they are safe to use.
 
The results of the test are presented back to the person responsible (known as the ‘duty holder’) in the form of an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).

The Regulations

All electrical installations must meet the wiring regulations laid out by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and British Standard BS 7671.

What is tested?

Tests are carried out on all low voltage electrical systems in a building. This includes main panels, distribution boards, lights and plug sockets. This is to ensure there is no overloads, defects and hazards that may cause harm or present a risk to life.

The test includes a visual inspection, as well as a physical test using. Testing are carried out with specially designed testing equipment. Alongside a visual inspection and physical test using.

Is fixed wire testing a legal requirement?

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require those who are in control of an electrical system, or part of an electrical system, to ensure it is regularly maintained and safe to use.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, it is also an employer’s duty to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees. This includes ensuring all electrical equipment and installations are safe to use.

Fixed wire testing is the best way to demonstrate compliance and ensure safety.

R Baker (Electrical) Ltd is based in Speke, Liverpool. All services are carried out from this location.

Is fixed wire testing the same as PAT testing?

No, this are two very different tests. PAT testing is the inspection of portable electrical equipment and appliances. This includes laptops, lamps, kettles and drills.
